• Strength

This past Saturday was the women’s breakfast at our church. It was so awesome. The topic was Strength. Several things stood out to me during the message. Our pastor’s wife Ashley spoke about not only strength but weakness. She said “God’s strength is our weakness “ and referenced “How long, LORD? Will you forget me? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? ~Psalm 13: 1-2 (NIV)and  2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV) “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my…

  • Zetangle Alphabet

Today’s Technique Thursday topic is something that has facilitated me for several years. Traditional Zentangle is quite an art. There is a specific training required to teach this style. It is quite popular amongst the Scrapbooking crowd. Personally I just don’t have the patience to do something as intricate as a Mandela or a large piece involving many types of tangles, however I could draw zentangled letters and hearts all day long. One of my favorite books is “Zenspirations by Joanne Fink” she also has a book on Dangles which is as the name suggests the long dangly elements in the letters below. I also recently purchased “The Art of…

  • How do you decompress?

So I had the bright idea that I wanted to have my Etsy shop show in the sidebar of my blog. I found a plug-in, installed it, got my API key, set up the plug-in, and placed the widget in my sidebar. Perfect right?? NOPE. It doesn’t work. I spent over 20 hours between Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening trying to get it to work. That and a plug-in to show my most recent blog post on my non WordPress website main index.html page. You guessed it that one doesn’t work either. I contacted the developers of both. The one for the Advanced Etsy Widget plug-in got back to me…

  • Supply Saturday: Prismacolor Colored Pencils

Today’s post is about my favorite colored pencils. When I first began coloring in 2015 after finding the Praying in Color book by Sybil McBeth I used what I could afford. After doing research I really wanted to try out higher quality pencils. I had come across Prismacolor Colored Pencils. When I first found out about them in 2015 they were still a bit out of my price range. In July of 2017 after I published my first book(links to purchase are in the sidebar on the right) I found a set of 24 on Amazon for $14.95. Here is one of the pages in that book colored with those…

  • How I paint Watercolor Tulips

For this Technique Thursday post I wanted to share how I paint watercolor tulips using the Trianlular brush from Rosemary and Company ….but I couldn’t find the video on my phone and was too late in the evening to get everything out to film another one so here is a link to the video on my personal Instagram feed Watercolor Tulips by shannon.binegarfoster I absolutely love using this way of making Tulips. I am mesmerized by watching the wet paint mix. I could watch it for hours….of course I would get nothing else done if I did that but it is so relaxing. Here is are a few pictures of one of my…

  • Fear is a Liar

Almost anyone who knows me is well aware that music holds a very special place in my life. I have a wide range as far as to the type of music that I like. Christian music is currently my number one go genre. There are so many great artists out there. Today I will be writing about ”Fear is a Liar” by Zach Williams From the moment I first heard it on the radio I was deeply moved. I have heard those negative words he sings about more times than I can count. I was driving one day last week when it came on the radio and I broke down…

  • Supply Saturday-IPad Pro and Apple Pencil

This is the first in my Supply Saturday posts. I will be sharing with you some of my favorite supplies. From time to time I may also share the ones I didn’t particularly care for and why. For this first installment I was inspired by a comment on my June 24th blog A Little About My Process where Donna asked How do you get all the different thickness lines only having an iPad pen. In your second book the words have a patterns in them. How do you do that? The Apple Pencil is an amazing tool that works in tandem with the Procreate App. Here are a few pictures showing the…

  • A little bit about my process….

The most popular question I get asked is “How long did it take you to write your book?” For my first book that is an easy answer. It took me well over 300 hours to complete. This is what one particular sketching session looked like   From this point once I had all the sketches inked onto tracing paper, I then scanned them and imported into Illustrator to convert them into vector images. The vector images can then be scaled up or down without becoming pixelated. I then inserted the word images and floral images into each page in Microsoft Publisher. Once that step was completed and all the pages…

  • Hello and a little bit about me.

Welcome. I thought I would start off with a little bit about me and how I became an author/Illustrator.  I am happily married to my husband Steve since September 1995. We were not blessed with children due to fertility struggles and me having a total hysterectomy in 2006 due to Uterine Cancer. We are however blessed with many nephews and nieces. We have a godson and many other children to spoil and send back home to their parents. I mean that is the best thing right. We have a 20lb cat named Gizmo who I am sure will make an appearance here from time to time.  I began hand lettering…
